The reward sounds like an emote to me. Golden and you wear it (kinda).

Just to toss a little more fuel on this - I agree completely that the game needs more rewards for GvG, specifically *not* just for the top guilds. One of the biggest problems with GvG is that there is no reward for playing or succeeding at it unless you're at the very top, which is unrealistic for most guilds. Those guilds end up in Hero's Ascent where they earn some fame and eventually emotes from their outings, and potentially take the Hall. If they spent a night in GvG instead they'd still be buried somewhere in the middle of the ladder, not really accomplishing much.

'Cool prizes' for the top are great to encourage the most competitive players, but the game needs a healthy population below that to support it and the game is lacking that right now. Hopefully some of the new guild features in chapter two support this, making GvG and PvP in general more rewarding for everyone.

Regarding membership sales, well, it depends on what people are expecting to get from it. If they're joining one of the ladder zerg guilds that rushed the top for a 'cool prize', well, as Gaile said they'll probably be disappointed. Are they paying for training? Just to brag? I don't know of any serious, top guilds that are stright-out selling memberships so I really don't have any idea what people are doing with this.

Peace,
-CxE

I think maybe they pay up so they can go to high ranked Guild events e.g: Taipei.
I definatly agree GvG needs more rewards(I myself find it fun enough now, making new builds, advancing up the ladder, analyzing the metagame, having fun with friends). But for smaller guilds who don't really have an interest in GvG's, a reward would be a good incentive.

To each his own I guess.
FoW armor costs 1 mil or so and 10,000 people have it.

The top 5 guilds have how many members apiece? 20 or so??

1 mil to stand apart from the main group but still in a group of 10,000 or 100k to stand out and be one of 20?

Whatever works I just know that I personally would not feel much personal accomplishment if I were in a top-tier PvP due to my RP-gained funds. And I would feel downright abashed if someone were to ask how I attained such a position.

Slightly offtopic but someone mention continent domination before, i think that will be less pvp dominated than people expect, according to the PlayNC website your chosen faction earns "faction points" for victories in co-op missions and pvp missions and a few other similar ideas like KOTH etc, so if you got one faction thats just pve and they just play missions then they will rack up the same points than a faction that dominates in pvp.

Reminds me of primary school, you would get put into "houses" which are just another word for team but 100~ kids in each team, then over the year people would earn points for their team and the team with the most points at the end of the year would be rewarded with sweets.

Quoted for utter truth.

Honestly why should any guild not being among the Top 100 even START a GvG? There is no way a fun oriented guild like mine can get into the Top 100 and why should we care if our rank is 600, 8000 or N/A? Fun? If we want to do fun PvP we can as well go into HA and maybe win HoH on a lucky day. GvG just can't offer us anything - except getting a serious spanking by guilds like yours. So, yes, our guild rank IS N/A, we don't do any GvG, ever.

Agreed. I don't mind A-net setting up $100,000 purses so that the top guilds can have some fun and something to fight for. That's totally allright. The good thing about the GWWC was that NOBODY missed anything by not participating in it. You guys got rewarded, we "normal" players had some fun watching it in observer mode.

However, if I am LOCKED out of game content because I can't ever hope to chase off the top guilds sitting on it, that's something entirely different. The GWWC did affect YOU in a positive way while area based lockouts would affect US in a negative way. That's the big difference.

As for GvG, it would be indeed really nice for "normal" players to get at least SOME reason to participate in it. The perspective to become #1,995 on the ladder doesn't really count as an incentive, IMO.

TeVL supposedly where selling memberships. Which is no surprise since its kind of a 'out-for-fun' PUG guild.

I must say, reading all the pros and cons of such membership, my stomach still turns in full revolving mode. Just the idea is all-to-familliar from RL, and reminds me of spoiled brats with rich parents who know nothing of accomplishing things for themselves. I mean, being a distinguished member of the community for having a top-guild guest memebership and no actual gvg's with 'em...what is your worth anyways? Being someone's tag-along. I'd be ashamed to accept, even for free.

Concerning Factions alliances, I have a notion the idea behind it was to tie PvP'ers and PvE'ers more closely (or to breach the gap, more accurately). Since battles will supposedly be huge, I think it will be much different than closely controlled PvP enviroment, and PvE'ers will actually get to shine along with their PvP mates. Hopefully this will remove some PvE hate in the PvP community...
